What is a moodboard and why is it important?Ī brand moodboard can set the tone and serve as your own personal visual guide for your brand - or as I like to call it - your visual compass! It can take the vibe in your head and translate it into something you can actually see (and even touch!) to put you in the right mood and embody an experience that will make your ideal clients and potential customers feel right at home when they interact with your brand. In this blog post, I’m going to explain what a moodboard is and why it's important, then I'll walk you through how to use Pinterest, Canva and a tool called Coolors to create your very own brand moodboard and colour palette, whoop! Mood boards are for YOU to get clarity on your brand and find some inspiration.One of the very first steps for my brand and Squarespace website design clients is to create a mood board using Pinterest! Not only is this part of the process a really great way to source inspiration and get a feel for the kind of style and aesthetic you’re drawn to for your brand, but it’s also really fun too! There's no limit to your creativity when creating a mood board - you can include colours, patterns, interior design, some pieces from your dream wardrobe, fabrics, and even logos and brand elements from others. For this project, it’s okay to use these directly from Pinterest because we won’t be sharing this with anyone else. ![]() If you want to take it one step further - create your own mood board collage in Canva (it’s free and easy to use). See lots of minimalist black and white images? Or noticing your pins have bright colours? Pick one style and find more complimentary images! Choose textures, photos, illustrations, home office spaces and textiles that compliment your brand. You might start to see yourself leaning towards a particular theme or style. Like a picture of a particular flower? The colours of a home decor shot appeal to you? Pin them! Decide on a general theme Note: It’s totally okay to pin random images that stand out to you, too. ![]() Searching for terms like: branding ideas, mood boards, colour palettes and brand inspiration are good places to start! This might be a general board at first if you have no idea where your brand colours or feel is going and in the beginning it’s totally okay to pin anything and everything that gets your attention.
